Self Advocacy is a powerful tool to ensure people with disabilities are empowered to have their opinions heard and their views taken into account!
At the VALID Network meetings, Self advocates learn about issues that matter to them. At the last meeting, Self Advocacy Project Worker Anthony talked about the NDIS. The NDIS ensures that people with a disability have a choice about:
• their goals
• the supports they need
• the way they spend their NDIS money
Some of the Self Advocates shared their goals. They were:
To not just be my own voice, but to be the voice of othersTo come to these meetings to get more skillsTo be independent at home
The Networks are truly making a positive shift in the lives of people with disabilities. If you or someone you know would like to attend the Networks, you can find out more here.
