What is VALID Q?

VALID Q is a support and advocacy group for people with intellectual disability who are LGBTQIA+.

LGBTQIA+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex or Asexual.
The plus (+) represents other sexual identities.

VALID Q is coordinated by VALID, a leading disability advocacy organisation in Victoria.

What does VALID Q do?

VALID Q provides a safe and welcoming space where people can:

  • Meet others

  • Share their stories and experiences

  • Find and give support

  • Plan activities together

Some of the things VALID Q members have done include:

  • Meeting with other LGBTQIA+ groups for people with disabilities

  • Speaking at the Having a Say conference

  • Taking part in the Midsumma Pride March

What VALID Q does in the future is up to its members.
Together, we plan to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities who are LGBTQIA+.

How can I get involved?

VALID Q is open to new members.

If you are a person with intellectual disability who:

  • Identifies as LGBTQIA+, or

  • Is questioning or exploring your sexuality or identity

We would love to hear from you.
