What is VALID Q?
VALID Q is a support and advocacy group for people with intellectual disability who are LGBTQIA+.
LGBTQIA stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex or Asexual. The plus represents other sexual identities.
VALID Q is coordinated by VALID.
What does VALID Q do?
VALID Q provides a safe and welcoming space for people to meet, share their stories and experiences, find and give support and plan activities together.
Some of the things VALID Q members have done include:
- Meeting with other LGBTQIA+ groups for people with disabilities
- Speaking at the Having A Say conference
- Taking part in the Midsumma Pride March
What VALID Q does in the future is up to its members. We plan to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities who are LGBTQIA+.
How can I get involved?
VALID Q is open to new members. If you’re a person with intellectual disability who identifies as LGBTQIA+, or who is questioning or considering your sexuality or identity, VALID Q would love to hear from you.
