MEDIA RELEASE: VALID 2026 Victorian State Election Statement

15 Oct 2026 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In the lead up to the upcoming Victorian State Election on 28 November 2026, VALID presents its Election Statement reflecting the priorities of the intellectual disability sector.

As Victoria’s peak body for people with intellectual disability, VALID stands ready to collaborate with the next State Government to deliver critical health, social and community outcomes.

Shaped by consultation with our members, families, workers and advocates, this statement reflects the daily realities and urgent needs of Victorians with intellectual disability. Our members want what all Victorians want: a thriving state, reliable support and safety.

To achieve this, VALID asks the next Victorian Government to:

  • Invest in specialist disability and family violence teams
  • Invest in long-term disability advocacy
  • Co-design foundational supports
  • Develop accessible communications
  • Develop a state-funded ‘Disability Safety Net’

With Victoria’s hospitals, courts and emergency services under escalating pressure, people with intellectual disability face increasing risks of abuse, neglect and social isolation. Investing in these five priorities improves equity and access to quality disability care, and creates a resilient, equitable and safer community for all Victorians.
