VALID and Tandem Carers Support received a grant from the Victorian government for a Carers Initiative in January this year to recognise the needs of family members of people with a disability and/or a mental health issue in more isolated rural areas.
Before COVID-19 we planned to conduct long relaxing lunches with optional activities like a massage or a manicure, but then COVID-19 happened and we had to come up with a new plan.
So now we have been sending our Gift Pack to acknowledge and ‘spoil’ family members with a gift voucher to put towards their own choice of pampering or relaxation activity and a gift Bag with practical and fun items, along with some ‘hand made with love’ items
Feedback has included ‘delight’ and appreciation with comments such as:
“What a wonderful surprise I received yesterday when I collected the mail. A box was waiting for me! It was just the lift that I needed.”
“THANK YOU so much for the lovely gift box that arrived. It was a real treat to keep finding more and more things – am loving all of the gifts”
This is the final chance to register for a gift pack. If you are a family member of a person with a disability or mental health issue and live in or around the rural towns of Orbost, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Robinvale, Ouyen, Sea Lake, Wycheproof, Birchip, Nhill, Kaniva or Portland, then contact Christine [email protected] before the 15th of October.
We only need a couple of details to register and post out your pack.
If you are a worker then please pass this on to families of people with disability or mental health issue who live in these rural areas.
Happy Carers Week to all the Carers out there!
