New Solutions for Services for One

Rules introduced on 1st July 2018 require all NDIS registered providers to register with the NDIS Commission if they are using a regulated restrictive practice.

These rules also apply for families who are running a service-for-one for their family member with a disability.

Inclusion Australia and VALID worked with families running services-for-one and the NDIS Commission to help families running services-for-one understand the new rules and get prepared.

Together we developed an auditing model that is sensitive to the needs of families and plain language tools to help families understand the rules.

The project was funded by the NDIS Quality an Safeguards Commission.

These resources were finished in June 2021.

Co-Creating Safe and Enjoyable Meals

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) led an inclusive, interdisciplinary and collaborative team to co-create a training course for people with disability, direct support workers, family members and NDIS service providers on swallowing disorders and mealtime management. VALID was part of this project team.

The course was designed to support NDIS providers to meet registration requirements in relation to the delivery of safe and enjoyable meals while also reducing the risk of choking death and increasing the nutritional benefit of the meals.

This project ran from July 2020 to 30 June 2021.
