Over 100 people joined us at VALID’s recent Open Day to learn more about our work, connect with our teams, and celebrate the power of advocacy.
Throughout the day, self advocates shared their experiences and spoke about the important work they do at VALID — from peer-to-peer programs like Activ8, to ensuring services listen and improve so people with disability can thrive. Visitors also heard presentations from the Community Development, VALID Connect, and Individual Advocacy teams, giving a full picture of the support VALID provides
.Former CEO Kevin Stone gave a keynote about VALID’s beginnings in the 1980s, reminding us that advocacy is born from necessity and sustained by community. We also celebrated Heather Forsyth, Senior Self Advocate, with the announcement of the Dot Leigh Boardroom in her honour
There was time for tours, conversations with staff, films, and plenty of food and connection. A special highlight was the musical performances from Katy and Croos, who treated us to piano and vocals during the day
