VALID’s community development work is focused on building more inclusive communities so that people with disabilities can live the life of their choice.
The VALID Community Development team takes a multi-level approach to creating change in the broader community:
Individual level is building the capacity and empowering individual people with a disability which can be done by engaging volunteers to lead the process of change. VALID does this by engaging people with a disability as volunteers through our Peer Action Groups.
Group level is working with agencies and leaders in community organisations and groups to adapt programs, activities, equipment and facilities to improve accessibility.
Community level is working with federal, state and local government to improve infrastructure and community awareness to reduce barriers to participation.
