Participant Empowerment and Support

How can people with intellectual disability get more say about what they do every day?

VALID’s Self Advocacy team helps Day Services and Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs) to:

  • Support participants to make their own decisions
  • Listen to and act on decisions that participants want their Day Service or ADE to make about the service
  • Train Day Service and ADE participants to co-design and run advisory or representative groups. These groups share information with Day Service and ADE staff about how they want the service to run
  • Work with services to improve through quality initiatives and create accessible resources.
